spirals are about continuity

The movement in the spiral is about beginning , not ending.

The spiral echoes the movement of the sun, moon, and stars.  Continual.  Continuous.  So the spirals in my work are about continuity.  About continuing on and on. 

It is life affirming work.

my velvet penguin

 When I was little, my grandmother made me a soft animal for Christmas.  It was softer than soft.  A black velvet penguin with a white satin tummy.  Silk velvet.  Heavy silk satin.  That penguin changed my life.  I recall how it felt to touch it, pet it, hold it.

a horizontal feeling in a square cloth
dyed and handled - used a lot and this handling is evident
marks, erasures, evidence of time and labour
layers of meaning and dream 

from earth to stars

And perhaps this is the essential quality of art: to be marks upon the infinite, mediators between our being and the world.
