Five Stars

I finished Intermezzo by Sally Rooney.  It had a good ending.

It is the way it is written, more than any character development or plot that makes the book so interesting.  She treats their inner worlds differently: not complete sentences for Peter so he seems so jumpy and neurotic, while the other brother, Ivan, uses more complete sentences as do two of the women, Sylvia and Margaret.  The reader is very intimately involved.  It’s very present and compelling writing. The present, the past, the bird singing

I stayed up until 2:20 am and finished my quilt top with the polka dot sea and the starry heaven and am looking at it now on the wall and I think it’s done.  Enough for now.  No moon.  No stars in that space.  Just an atmosphere.  An empty space that I will hand stitch.
