the largeness of the world

I am concerned with pictorial space and picture making.

I look at how things are bounded.

I pay attention to edges.

I'm interested in physical experience.

I'm interested in the experience of the body being alive and metaphors that are generated in relation to experience.

The relationship between being a subject, small in relation to the largeness of the world, is at the core of being a human being.

  1. I brake for edges, too - don't you? When working with Nancy's work, I leave the edges softly frayed and unfinished because that speaks more to who she is. And "metaphors that are generated in relation to experience" - is there any other kind, really? I'm totally entranced watching this unfold. Those 2 black spots in the upper righthand corner - part of the design? Such nice, soothing colors . . .

    1. the spots are blue and grey actually, and i was thinking birds or stars. Have since changed my mind about the contrasting colour - but am still looking for something in the sky. some small mark to interest my eye.

Your work with your sister in law's drawings is so important. Keep on.

    2. a magpie! thanks for your encouragement about nancy's work. you know, about a month ago her other brother told me that he wishes i'd stop because her marks are "nothing more than meaningless scribbles" and he's embarrassed to be associated with her. i slowed down for a while, but i won't stop. i can't. i just can't.

I hope that we can have a conversation about creation. Thank you for taking interest. x
