side a and side b

celestial harmony

johannes kepler believed that souls move the planets, then later he used the word force instead of soul

but it shows that there is a co-relation between science and divinity

a medieval concept:  there is a divine force behind the movements of the planets

  1. you make me long to draw in stitch. i almost brought a blank slate of cloth and ample supply of thread to the hospital with me, just to see where i wound up. now, i wish i had. soul/planets. soul/work force. science/divinity. engineer/artist. sun/moon. dark/light. all fine and worthwhile combinations. this is beautiful, judy.

    1. Yes, I cut it.
I cut it first when I placed the moon into what I thought of as the top of one of the runners I made for April's wedding. A reverse applique variation. At that time, I loved how I had to look up to see that moon, and how that reminded me of being outside alone with the night sky, and how that made me go into myself and find the answer.

And then I cut it again, because it was just so long. I cut over a foot off the one end, and used the fabric as an applique material to draw with on the rest. Couched applique - another 'variation'.

And while I was doing that, I got distracted, and the piece began to be more about how I was making it - the drawing from the back - the duality of the two sides - then about the original intent of looking up and going inward.

      And my family surrounded me.
And my journal became tangled because I had forgotten to bring a new one to the cottage, and so filled up blank spots when I needed to draw or write. Out of order.
And the family - did I mention the beautiful family that I adore?

And so I would grab a minute here, a minute there, three hours at a time very occasionally - and stitch with that accidental idea of covering the surface with unintended intuitive marks that looked great on both sides. It became something else again - a healing, nurturing, mothering cloth.

And so I cut it in half and sewed it back together, because why not? It was no longer that moon up in the sky, but something else.

And that's when I remembered that I had lost my way.

This piece, as it stands, is not working. I don't like it as a painting, wall hanging. It does not communicate any of the three things I thought it might ...other than perhaps that last one. The healing idea.

      I am quite disappointed actually.

But thank you for the encouraging words. Much appreciated.x

    2. Divine forces and souls need space to find their way.

    1. Thanks Mo, but I have a feeling that I will cut it up again. I do appreciate your encouragement however.
