simplicity

a simpler ralli
stitched with red I think, then because it is artist's canvas
the stitches painted over with white on front side, visible as red on the back
still beautiful, still not true

the stars because of the yellow and blue Welsh quilt
the simpliicty of it

soni

drawing on artist canvas with appliqued piecework
it looks like a pieced quilt, but it is not

beautiful, but not real

sky with many moons

I like quilt baggage.
The large scale  - enough to cover a body, a family.
The weight of three layers.
The metaphor of protection.
The language of symbols, created by women.
and months of touching with the hand stitch
These add power.

from my 2011 journal

the world and the music

and then there is the world
senses other than sight
there is this other living music

rachel carson - the sense of wonder

visions

Hildegarde of Bingen had visions in childhood and entered the convent at age 7.
Her work: Scivias, begun in 1142 documented  26 of her visions.
Barbara Newman identifies Hildegarde as the first Christian thinker to deal seriously and positively with the idea of the feminine.
A female mysticism.

the above text is from a page from one of my notebooks (1999) that is now cut up and is being stitched to the black wool in the photo.  The idea to do this came to me in a dream.

These two cloths: part of my ongoing body of work dealing with my journals.
