a gift keeps going

the smell of winter apples

of hoar frost, and of linen

these are nothing but gifts on this poor, poor Earth

  1. I am in love with this piece-but to be fair, I love blue and white, especially indigo and white. How big does this piece want to be?

    1. It's a 9 patch quilt. I'm going to piece a double 9 patch of all muslin - 3 more blocks across on all sides - you can see the width of this border in top photo. Then I'll see. It may be bigger - I like bigger. And that it's hand pieced is a powerful statement on the gift of time.

  2. I love hand piecing-most of my work is hand pieced. I work full time, have a child in college and coach swimming, so hand piecing works best for me-you can pick it up and put it down which is what I love-plus I love the power of hand stitching.

    1. I would not have been able to do as many quilts as I have without the portability and ease of hand stitch. I love to stitch. Glad you are a convert, Tina.

  3. is this the one you've been working on during visits with your dad? if so, it takes "gifts on this earth" and "gifts of time" to a whole deeper level. this one seems testament to how little things add up into big things. i like bigger, too. me thinks i'm overcompensating for my teensy little studio space. xx

    1. yes, little things add up to big things.

in this piece, I like the simplicity. I'm able to zone out when I look at that checkerboard. Simple things. Huge.

I hope that we can have a conversation about creation. Thank you for taking interest. x
