One of Mary Pratt's teachers advised her that in her family there could only be one artist and that artist is Christopher (her husband). She heard, but did not allow herself to retire.
Instead, she took hold of her life and chose to continue painting, arranging her responsibilities as a parent around her needs as an artist.
this note from my 1998 journal
Hearing and Listening are two different things. Thank goodness Mary Pratt knew the difference. As for you . . . one of the many things I admire about you is how you make time for your art, even as you tend to your many family responsibilities. You are my shero, my role model, my inspiration. x
ReplyDeleteJeanne, my art is my therapy. I have to do it.
